For years now I've been slowly releasing my Fantasy campaign setting Jolrhos one book and adventure at a time. The schedule has meant to be one big book and one adventure module per year, plus whatever else I could pull off. Sometimes I do better, sometimes its slower -- the Field Guide took 3 years to finish.
But with the success of the Dr Destroyer reboot, I'm not sure fantasy adventures are what I should be focusing on. Its long been a contention of mine that Fantasy Hero is a great product that is horribly supported by Hero. They came out with a gem and then basically forgot about it other than spells and a single adventure book for 4th edition (Battlegrounds). How can people play this if they don't have the support material? So I've been trying to release an adventure in between each sourcebook, to add to the material out there.
Now I'm starting to think I should go with champions adventure rebuilds from the old stuff, since that actually earns me money and keeps the idea afloat. I'm not sure, maybe I'll alternate between them. Its a whale load easier to reboot an existing adventure than write up a new one, even with all my old notes and maps from 40 years of RPGing. I'll have to give it some thought.
However something did become clear to me: my art isn't the finest stuff ever put on paper, but its apparently good enough that people like what they see and will buy a product with my work on the cover. Previously I'd been using washed and tinted scenery and images, or old out of copyright art from the 18th and earlier centuries. Fantasy always has these gorgeous painted original artworks but I'm thinking that I can actually do my own covers and not totally disgust buyers (the Fantasy Codex is some of my work, but its just symbols).
