I found this a few minutes ago. Tasha has already posted it to the official boards; I'm going to put it here. angrydm.com/2014/09/dear-wotc-why-do-you-suck-at-selling-games/It's a rant, well worth reading for anyone who wants to sell games. I specifically want to post it here for discussion about how it relates to Hero Games and the HERO System. There is a huge difference between a textbook and reference material. Most of our gaming materials are reference material. We don't have any textbooks! This is what Hero In Two Pages is trying to do, this is what Tasha is trying to do with her how to document, this is what I tried to do with my How To Play HERO System document.

Yes a good set of 'training manuals' for GMs/DMs would be helpful.

More effort to teach people the basic concepts of RPGs would be helpful as well; videos, podcasts, etc. He's right that expecting a small group of zealous evangelists for gaming to grow your industry is a poor idea.

It's what Derek Hiemforth did with Champions Complete. JG

I'd have to Check Champions Complete...I don't remember any useful information such as AngryDM is ranting about. Most games lack it. WEG 1st editions of Star Wars and Ghostbusters are two that did it really well...GB had a ton of adventures and plot seeds ready to go.
4th Ed Champions I thought did a pretty decent job with the scenarios presented. I wish it had used 3rd editions hero/villain options with the sample characters as you could have a whole pregen team to use and run thru some scenarios to get a feel for things. Plus I always thought Howler was smoking' hot.

Good documents except once you create a character there's no tips for what to do with him and no guide for a starting GM to explain what he should do and why or how. That's the main point of AngryGM's rant as I understood it.
