More specific to the topic, here are three concepts that I have in mind that an expanded DOT style structure would affect
Talon Strike - this is a spell in a mod for Skyrim that I like the idea of; it deals more damage the more distant the target. At maximum range it can be quite impressive, but up close its nothing special. The feeling is very magical and promotes tactical thinking. So in Hero this would usually be "blast with limitation does less damage than max at close range" but what if it could be built with a DOT structure: does more further than less closer?
Building Strike - This is an idea that some magic weapons have in some games I've played; an attack that does more each time it successfully hits. This can be done with an Aid (and it would give an absolute cap to damage maximum) but what about a DOT type structure. The idea would be each time the attack hits it gets better on its own rather than being built with a set damage total.
Cascade Strike - This one came from a power a character had in a game a long time ago, a pair of gloves that would hit several times, each time more powerful than the last. I think it was built with autofire and some other stuff, but this has possibilities with DOT's concept as well. A punch that does 4d6, 6d6, then 8d6 bang bang bang in a row instead of all at once. Just a way of adding increasing damage to a DOT would be useful for some poison concepts - a venom that builds rather than is consistent; or in opposite, that gets weaker rather than stays the same the whole duration.
