I just found out that Aaron Allston passed away today at the age of 53. He was a big part of my gaming, from Car Wars to Champions, from almost the very beginning.

Wow that is very sad. He wrote several novels too but I never have read any of them. The man was a gaming icon, in several systems. His Treasure Hunt adventure for D&D is one of the best, and his work for Champions was superlative.

I think his Strike Force book was the single most influential and excellent gaming supplement ever produced. And his work on other games was always up to par. He wrote a lot of fiction, including some very popular Star Wars books. The funny thing is, almost all gamers know his work even if they weren't familiar with his name.

This is sad news, he was only a few years older than me! Harold Ramis, now Arron Allston. Not a good week.

Aaron also wrote the Ghostbusters RPG's second edition, coincidentally.

RIP, Aaron.
I have two copies of Strike Force and one of Lands of Mystery (which I now shall never be able to have autographed). I would gladly give them up to have Mr. Allston back, able to continue doing what he did so well.
I think I'm going to reread Strike Force this weekend.

I just got done rebuilding the Treasure Hunt adventure he wrote for D&D (Module N4) for Fantasy Hero, too. He did a lot of great work.

So sad, and such a loss of talent. He seemed like a great guy from all accounts I know of. He wrote so many of my favorite game materials, I won't hold the godawful Ghostbusters International against him.
Still gotta find an affordable Strike Force.
