Greetings!
I have been given this space to talk about my work, which will include the material I produce for the HERO Game community via my website (Surbrook's Stuff) and the material I am working on for BlackWyrm Games.
At the moment, my current projects are:
Rebuilding Surbrook's Stuff: I am (slowly) learning a web content management system called "Drupal", which I intend to use to rebuild my website to make it more manageable, easier to update, and more user-friendly (with regards to searches). I am looking for people to assist, so let me know if you're interested.
Kazei 5: At the moment I am developing an expansion to the K5 wordbook. Titled Kazei 5: System Upgrade, it will contain new cyberware, new esper powers, new cyberhacking programs, new gear, vehicles, powered armor, essays, and scenarios. I am looking for people to review the material and offer feedback (email me at the address in my sig). If you'd like to contribute anything you've developed for your own campaign, please, let me know.
Fearsome Critters: A companion volume for Larger Than Life (see), this book will present various creatures from American folklore, tall tales, and mythology. I intend to include everything from Bigfoot to the Snollygaster and beyond. I intend to work on this in late 2014 and into 2015.
Fistful of Fu: Remember Watchers of the Dragon? This is my answer to that. 50-60 characters divided into the power levels I first described in Ninja Hero (Real World, Cinematic, Wuxia, Video Game, and Anime Martial Artists, with an added helping of various Ninja). I hope to make characters you can use in most anything, and am trying to present characters from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just Asian martial artists. Right now, the most inexpensive character is around 80 points of 14 year-old judoka, while the most expensive will be 1.500+ points of Galactic Champions Dragon Ball Z pastiche. Although I'm going to try and do all of this myself, I intend to ask a few people to see if they want to assist (Jason has mentioned submitting the luchadore the Blue Demon). I am working on this right now and intend to have it done and ready for GenCon 2015.
Ghosts, Ghouls, and Golems--A HERO System Sourcebook for the Strange and Supernatural: This book discusses the classic creatures of horror—ghosts, vampires, werewolves, zombies, ghouls, and so on. Each section discusses a specific creature type, gives historical examples, describes similar creatures from around the world, and gives several character sheets. I also present character sheets for notable examples of each character type (i.e. Dracula, The Beast of Gévaudan, Frankenstein's Monster, Jack the Ripper, Slender Man, and others). This book is complete and I hope to see this out by GenCon 2014.
Larger Than Life—Adventures in American Folklore: A look at ~20 archetypes from American history. Starting with the Colonial era, the book also covers the Tall-Tales Era, the Wild West era, and the Post-War Era. Each era presents appropriate archetypes (for example, the Colonial era has a Pirate, Continental Soldier, Backwoodsman, and Riverman). Taking the Pirate as an example, each section will include the primary example (in this case Blackbeard), mini-bios of other examples (in this case other pirates), a pirate template, and definitions of different types of pirates (privateer, corsair, swashbuckler, and so on). A rough count include ~20 archetypes, 24 full character sheets, ~150 mini-bios, numerous templates, several glossaries and definitions, and 145,000 words. The characters are mostly built on a superhero scale and range from as little as 150 points to over 1,000. This book is complete and I hope to see it ready for purchase come GenCon 2014.
Well of the Worlds: This is a setting sourcebook. It's a little hard to describe, being a sort of lost world, pulp-fantasy, superhero setting. It may help if I tell you the setting was inspired by John Carter of Mars, El Hazard, and Land of the Lost. I intend to work on this in 2015. If BalckWyrm passes on it, I may talk to Silverback Studios.
I also have several articles that I hope BlackWyrm will eventually produce as PDF downloads or some such. We'll have to see.
