So, recently reverted back to my Villains and Vigilantes Roots. It's been something of a breath of fresh air actually. I kind of find myself moving back towards the old days in a lot of my gaming choices (Though I still stick with HERO 6 in Hero's case, though I did run some BBB stuff for some folks awhile back)....
Games I've Picked up Lately I've been real Happy with. Dungeon Crawl Classics. FATE Core. Savage Worlds Deluxe. 13th Age. Piles of Castles and Crusades Stuff. Firefly the RPG. Traveller 5 (Not so much as a game but I find it....fascinating to read), ICONS, hmm, finally pulled the trigger on the current Mutants and Master Minds stuff as well.....
Anyone else get anything new or old this year?

I was playing some AD&D 1e last year, and we're expecting to pick it back up this year.

Yeah I have nearly replaced all my AdnD 1st Ed books.....just need 3 more. Most likely will have them by Garycon. HUGE fan of the OS Resurrection with Systems like Castles and Crusades, not to mention OSRIC and it's like or DCC especially, but I keep finding tons of AdnD players out there looking for a game and well, I like to game. ~Rex

I've been doing LOTS of Savage Worlds demos the last couple of years, and having fun adapting the Terracide setting to Savage Worlds as well. I'm all kinds of excited about this project.
A few months ago I got into a Pathfinder campaign. Paizo's interpretation of the D&D3 rules is interesting; they kept the core mechanics with all their pros & cons, but made a lot of tweaks. On the balance I think they improved the game somewhat. It's still d20, though.

Finally grabbed some more Savage Worlds stuff. Been making do with my old Explorers Edition and my Solomon Kane material but I had a few bucks laying around so grabbed the new Deluxe Rules and started writing up some Pulp stuff for it (Plus most likely going to snag the Deadlands Noir material soon to boot). I find it a nice alternative game to fall back on when I can't get certain players to not Fear FATE of HERO.... Or DCC. ~Rex

On the balance I think they improved the game somewhat. It's still d20, though. A friend of mine started a Pathfinder (using the SRD) game recently. The system took less than two minutes (literally!) to start annoying me. I had a character concept I wanted to play - a dwarven paladin. Pretty iconic, right? The problem is, under Pathfinder, dwarves make inferior paladins. You see, paladins get a saving throw bonus based on their Charisma score... and dwarves get a -2 penalty to it. It's not a bad system, but it feels confining.

I just ran my first Savage Worlds Pulp Genre game on Wednesday. It's pretty cool. Theres still some stuff in Character Gen that I have to get my head around, but that only for a fairly complicated character. The Pulp characters have been fun to build and fun to play. I have been running Triple Ace Games Daring Tales of Adventure. So far we are just playing the pre gen characters from the Triple Ace Website. We had a screaming fun car chase, a gun battle in a warehouse and the end will be really fun too. I can't wait to run it again next week.
