I've got a question for all you Hero mavens. What is the difference between the forth edition of the Hero basic rules, the 4th ed. Champions Universe, and the Champions version with all the rules in one book?
Is there a difference in content between the first two (basic rules + CU) and the last one (Champions all in one)? I'm just curious how those books work out, if there's information in the Champs rules that isn't in the CU and basic rules together.
Thanks!

4th edition: The BBB (Big Blue Book) didn't include the full Champions Universe; it included some basic stuff on campaigning and a bunch of prewritten characters, along with the sample adventures from 3e, updated into 4e. Not too far off from Champions Complete; CC is basically a 6e version of the BBB.
The HERO System Rulesbook was just the rules portion of the BBB. It wasn't really called the basic rules; it would be more or less the equivalent of CC without the Champions portion.

Hmm, so the BBB had a picture of Seeker on the cover? And the "rules only" version of fourth was brown and had three pictures of different genre'd heroes on it?
Just trying to clarify what's what.
Is the "basic stuff on campaigning" and the prewritten characters available in other places besides the BBB?
In other words, if I'm going to pick one of these up on ebay, will I miss out much if I don't get the book with Seeker on the cover?

If you're looking for the particular characters, then you'd want that book. If you've got Champions resources from other editions and are wanting to play/run 4th edition Champions, then you wouldn't be missing much.

And I just got my new (old) copy of 4th edition BBB delivered today. It cost me $1 and $11 shipping and handling. It looks like it's in excellent shape too, there's no bent or creased pages or any writing inside at all.

Nice find, and if it's not falling apart, that's a miracle or it was never really used. With my copy, the pages just fell out of the binding without the need for creasing or anything else.

Mine fell to bits rapidly but the second Deluxe edition held together better (with the Heromaker CD)
