the only thing I can't figure out is what will be in this that's not in the Fantasy Hero book now. The big draw for Champions Complete was "finally, the Hero System that doesn't require a handtruck to move around."

Why don't you ask Mike directly? We did a ton of Theory crafting what WOULD go into such a book on the Official Boards. I would hope that it would include a basic Gameworld, Magic Systems (at least one for Arcane and one for Divine magic) plus spells. More ready to go game and rules than Genre book. It will also be interesting what Stretch Goals they have planned beyond the standard Hard Cover, Color printing, etc that so many other KS's fall back on. Perhaps they will offer some printed maps. Cardboard standups, PDF addons. etc.

What I think I would urge Hero Games to do for stretch goals is pay Mike to make some adventure PDFs. I think we've all noted here that support for a product is important, and without some support FHC isn't likely to do any better than any other Hero fantasy product.
PDFs don't increase the page count and cost of the main product, drive some traffic to your site for the purchase, and do support the main product. Other dodads like a color fold-out map, or some color plates, or a GM screen would also be helpful imo as support.
Regarding what FHC is for: I haven't bought FH yet, and I probably won't. So a complete book is more or less up my alley, depending on what's in it. Anyone who is new to Hero or simply hasn't bought the FH book yet would also be a potential sale for FHC.

There are people I know who would buy this product. This is good news.

I will be backing the hell of this kickstarter. It will be my only Hero Games purchase in the last 4 years.

The announcement inspired me to finally buy the hardback 6e Fantasy Hero today that's been tempting me to buy it at my local gaming & comic shop for a while. Fantasy Hero Complete will end up being another 'loaner' copy (with Hero System Basic & Champions Complete).

Just making a quick mental note to myself: Hero Games often has bland character sheets. A good early stretch goal would be to get Keith Curtis or someone to make some new fancy Fantasy Hero Complete characters sheets, to be included in the book and also a free (or cheapie) download.
Also, I found the characters in Champions Complete to be rather blandly laid out. It looks like their layout guy just used the standard table formats, and the result looked poor imo. A stretch goal could be for extra time for snazzier layouts for example NPCs in the book. Perhaps take a cue from Sketchpad who I think has said here that he prefers the older, tighter layout for NPC characters, and go for an example character layout that takes 1/3 to 1/4 of a page, tops.

I would like a really nice looking character sheet, preferably one that doesn't take up 2 pages as well. My efforts end up being very utilitarian and while they work, they aren't very attractive.

Quoting myself from the official boards because I know Mike doesn't post there... Just to expand on this idea (or maybe contract on it), I like things even simpler. Sure, you and I can put together characters from a list like this, but folks who are new probably can't. When I first started playing Hero, I used 3rd ed. and there weren't any options to the example characters at all. You picked a character you liked based on the description and boom, you were ready to play. Other games that I learned later in life were similar. First edition Shadowrun had a lot of example characters ready to go, and you picked at most one option from a set of three. That was it. And again it was boom and you're ready to play. I think a lot of experienced Hero players don't appreciate the difficulty new players have learning a new system. That's any new system, but it kind of goes double for Hero. For FHC, my preference would be for 12 example characters completely worked out, with no options except for maybe a small one in the flavor text, like third edition Champions had hero and villain options for each character. Then boom you're ready to go.

Having thought about this a bit more I would suggest that a setting include: - Size ~ 25,000 sq miles (think West Virginia)
- 5 to 10 Towns/Cities : Only detail one of them, say a town between 5000 and 8000 people. That becomes home base for the players or the nearest big place they go to visit.
- Detailed town should be at the same level as Elweir in VA. but since it is a much smaller place than Elweir, it could be 20 or 30 pages of information
- Other towns should be a paragraph or two.
- History of the region - some detail for the previous 50 years and a vague list of events for further back in time.
I would also NOT link it directly to either the TA or VA products. I would recommend making it generic enough that it could be dropped into either TA or VA or a home brew campaign world.

I can see the appeal for some players, especially those used to be held by the hand and given classes with prepared blocks of abilities in them, with such an approach. I'd like to believe eventually they grow enough as a gamer to not need to be led around like that though.
